Tom Ford's Spring 2014 makeup collection is a small collection of limited edition lip color conditioners and nail lacquers. The lip color conditioners, or lip sheers, are new to the Tom Ford lip line up claiming to be "semi-translucent" and moisturizing with "vitamin C, vitamin E, shea butter and other natural oils." Because I'm an incurable lip junkie, I could not resist getting a couple of these. Yes, these are ridiculously expensive, but I was just way to curious to see how these would perform compared to more affordable alternatives. The lipstick/lip balm hybrids are my favorite types of lipstick because they tend to have sheer to medium pigmentation that I prefer over opaque formulas and moisture for my perpetually dry lips is always welcome.

Immediately upon opening my package and unwrapping these from the packing paper, I noticed how hefty these lipsticks are. I know many luxury beauty brands beef up the packaging, but I felt this was heavier than I've noticed before. I pulled out a couple of other Tom Ford lipsticks I own including the older packing and the current packing and found that these lip color conditioners are indeed just slightly heavier. Why? I have no idea. The packaging is still the same size. These come in the original white and gold lacquer packaging that the Tom Ford lip color was initially housed in before they were changed into the mahogany packaging. The lipstick bullet is different in that it is "beveled" or, as I'd like to put it, chopped off (straight across the top). I guess this would help you distinguish it from the older lip color formula if you own any since they have the same white and gold packaging. The main difference between the lip sheer packing and the original lip color packing is the difference in the embossing on the top of the lipstick cap. The new lip sheers have "TF" embossed in the gold on the cap and the original lip colors have "Tom Ford" embossed on the cap. The lip sheers still have the "TF" embossed into the actual product. These also have the same vanilla scent as the regular Tom Ford lip colors.

Summer Fling is described as "pink coral". I think it's a neutral to warm pink, my-lips-but-better shade. This shade has some sparkle to it. I usually don't like shimmer or sparkle in my lip products but the shimmers in this lipstick seem to make my lips look fuller and gives that "3-D" effect.

Paradiso is described as "light coral". I'm totally lost on the light coral because I don' think there's anything light about this shade. Paradiso is a bright coral but not so bright that it's neon or unwearable on a daily basis or in an office setting. I think it's a fun shade for spring and summer and just brightens the whole complexion. There is no shimmer in this shade. The finish is a subtle satin.

Below are a couple of swatches I took in my bathroom because the lighting in there seems to be the most balanced between warm and cool. I think the colors in the photos are true to life as are the colors in the above photos of the product in the tube. It took a few swipes to get the color below mostly because the "TF" is embossed pretty deeply into the lipstick. However, with swiping this a few times, I could see how this lipstick is easily buildable.

This last photo I tried to capture some of that sparkle in Summer Fling. It's difficult to see in the photo but it is obvious in real life.

And finally, I swiped on each of the colors and took some really quick photos. I apologize for the dark circles and crazy hair, but I think the photos capture how the lipsticks look on the lips pretty well. The color payoff is great right off the bat but not fully opaque so there is room for buildability (totally making up this word).

I'm going to test these over the next few days. In the meantime, I thought I'd post some photos and swatches for you in case you were considering any of these colors. My expectations are high considering the price point and the fact that the Tom Ford lip colors are some of my favorite lipsticks. Check back soon for the full review.

Dior's Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm ($27) is quickly becoming a cult favorite as it is getting rave reviews from many popular beauty bloggers and YouTube beauty gurus. I have to admit, I have been suckered into purchasing this rather pricey lip balm because of the positive reviews across the board. That and the fact that I am a lip product junkie. And because I have very annoyingly dry lips and will almost try anything to make them as soft as a baby's bottom as possible. This is how I justified the purchase anyway.

The lip balm is housed in a thick, white, plastic container pot that screws open with "CD" embossed on the lid. It's maybe about an inch and half in diameter and three-quarters of an inch tall. I wouldn't say it's small but definitely compact enough to stick in your purse or clutch. I don't think I'd carry this around in my pocket though.

The balm has a soft baby pink tint but it's pretty much clear on the lips. It goes on buttery smooth and hydrates very nicely. I don't think the product is especially more moisturizing than any other standard lip balm, but the feel of it is so nice on the lips, which is what I would expect from a luxury lip product. After a while the lips do get slightly tacky as the balm wears off or your lips absorb the moisture. The product claims to be plumping, but I didn't notice any extra juiciness to my lips (darn?). I'm not sure how I feel about lip plumping products so I'm not too disappointed. The product has the most delicate rose scent in the pot that translates just slightly to the lips. I don't think it's too heavy or overbearing, but it does tend to linger for a while. I love rose-scented things so this is just a nice luxurious touch to the overall experience. As an added bonus, there's also SPF 10 in it, so you also get some sun protection.

Overall, I really like this lip balm and would recommend because feels really, really nice on the lips and provides a good amount of moisture. Though my lips need a lot of TLC, I tend to abandon a lot of lip balms and treatments because I dread the way they make my lips feel or the way they taste. With Dior's Crème de Rose, it's an absolute joy to slather this stuff on. It doesn't repair my super dry lips completely overnight, but I think it does an adequate job and with daily use the condition of my lips have improved immensely. I like applying this at night before bed but I find myself reaching for it during the day too if I'm not wearing any other lip product. It performs very well under lip products as well.
As an added tip, I suggest pressing your finger gently into one spot on the balm to "start" the balm. The top layer of the balm is a little tougher than the balm underneath. It reminded me of melted candle wax than had dried again. It just takes a little more warming up than the balm underneath that top layer to get smooth. If you press a little spot down in the balm, that spot will always be soft and ready to use.
I bought mine at Sephora. You can also find it at Sephora.com or your local Dior counter.
The Chanel Ombres Matelassees de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette in Charming ($80.00) is a limited edition item that is part of the Chanel Holiday 2013 collection. The holiday collection has been out for a few weeks now, but for some reason this palette was just recently released. I swooped on it as soon I saw it pop up on Nordstrom's website as this was the only holiday item from Chanel I was interested in purchasing. I did end up purchasing a polish from the collection, but that's for another post.

The packaging is the typical sleek, black Chanel compact complete with velvet pouch and two applicators. There is the usual double ended sponge tip applicator and an applicator with a sponge tip on one end and natural hair brush on the other end. I have not seen this type of applicator in a Chanel palette before.

I am loving the quilted embossed pattern of the shadows. The detail is just such a nice touch and makes the palette look so put together. However, it seems the pretty pattern won't stand a chance with regular use because the shadows are so soft.

I haven't gotten a chance to play with this palette much as I have been super busy. I wanted to just get the photos and swatches up first because I could see a nice, wearable palette like this selling out. I will post an update with a full review as soon as I have a chance to form a solid opinion on this palette. What I can tell you from just swatching these shadows is that they are super soft, smooth, and buttery to the touch. The pigmentation is there too. The swatches you see in the photos took about two swipes. I wouldn't say they are very saturated but pigmented enough so that I could not foresee there being any problems in performance. The middle bronze shade swatched the best, yielding the best color payoff and having the most buttery feel. The two darker colors on the right in general swatched better than the two lighter colors on the left, but I would not say that the lighter colors are inferior just yet.

From left to right, the first shade is an ivory that leans pink. The second shade is a light brown that is similar to Urban Decay Naked or Naked 2. The third shade is a gorgeous bronze shade that leans more towards the warm side. The fourth shade is a mostly neutral dark brown. The 5th shade is a dark slate gray that appears a little bluish.

At first glance, all the shadows except for the middle shade appear to be matte. However, on closer inspection, all the shadows actually have a slight satin sheen so that they are not completely matte. I think this prevents them from being chalky or powdery. I can't say how the shadows will look on the eyes just yet, but from the impression that I get from the swatches, the finish seems like it has the potential to be very natural, wearable, and sophisticated.

The Chanel Charming eyeshadow palette is available now. I got mine online from Nordstroms.com. Stay tuned for a complete review.
Hey everyone! My beauty favorites are now up.... and on time! I've been productive lately with filming videos. It's always the editing part that takes the longest. I have a few videos on the editing block, so hopefully those will be up soon. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this latest installment. Thanks for watching!

Hi everyone! Here is my latest tutorial using the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I used to absolutely hate matte eyeshadows. Perhaps because I ran into bad formulas and they never worked out for me. Or maybe because I just like shimmer and glitter so much I'd rather buy those kind of eye shadows over matte ones. Whatever the reason, mattes weren't my thing.

Then comes the Naked and Naked 2 palettes where Urban Decay put a few matte shadows in with their shimmery shadows. I definitely started to learn how to incorporate the matte shadows into my looks and really learned to appreciate what they can do. With Urban Decay's pigmented and smooth formulation, the mattes were so much easier to use than the ones I've tried in the past.

The Naked Basics Palette is a palette of all but one matte eye shadows. This palette is meant to accompany the Naked and Naked 2 palettes because a lot of people thought there should've been more matte shadows in those palettes, but you can definitely use it alone, which is what I did in this tutorial.

Here is what I used:

Revlon Nearly Naked foundation - Shell + Fresh Beige mixed
Physicians Formula Super BB concealer - Light/Medium
Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer - 7
Chanel Crayon Sourcils Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil - Brun Cendre
Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette - Venus, Naked, Foxy, Faint, Crave
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Waterproof Mascara
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush - Fantastic
Maybelline Color Whisper lipstick - Lust for Blush

Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

I filmed my November favorites back at the end of November like I was supposed to, but with the holidays and the end of the year being so busy, I never got a chance to edit the video. The footage is good, except maybe the lighting could be fixed, so I didn't want to waste it. I thought about combining November and December favorites into an end of the year favorites thing, but I knew the video would end up being like a day long. In the end, I decided just to edit the footage I had and just throw it up there. Most of the products are permanent so that you could still get them if you were interested. I think this is the first time I mention some hair products that I like. I hope you enjoy the video!

Products mentioned:

Organix Shampoo and Conditioner
Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Weightless Healing Dry Oil
Clear Scalp Therapy Shampoo

A lot of people may think neutral looks are boring, but they are probably the looks that most people wear on a daily basis. And though they might not be the most awe striking, a well executed neutral look can definitely still turn heads and be absolutely stunning.

I decided to do collection of neutral eye looks and put them together in a playlist on my channel. This is the first look in the series. It features two of my favorite neutral eye palettes - NARS Alhambra and NARS Kalahari. These are rather pricey palettes, but the shadows are absolutely gorgeous. No worries, I will include drugstore palettes and shadows in future tutorials.

I hope you enjoy the tutorial!

Chanel's Notorious Sculpting Veil for eyes and cheeks has become my holy grail contouring product. I've never tried anything that truly chisels out features on my face. Not only is the color perfect for my skin tone, the product is truly a dream to work with. Just remember to blend well! If you want to hear more of my thoughts on this product and to see how I use it to contour my face, click on the video to watch.
I filmed this quite a while ago, but it's been a slow editing process. I cut 30 minutes of footage down to 3 minutes for this video! I hope you can still get the product if you want it because it is limited edition. If not, I'm sorry! But the tutorial shows you basically how I would contour with any other type of bronzer or contouring product.
Hope you're having a good day!
xo Tina
PS. I have a tutorial for the makeup look I wore in this video in editing. Hopefully it will be up soon!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02007638158544952862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4683002270683838597.post-52799367030066811802012-11-12T00:29:00.001-05:002013-11-01T04:39:05.011-04:00October 2012 Favorites

Hi everyone!

Another month gone by! Here are my October favorites. I know this video is a bit late. I'm sorry if I sound a little lack-luster. I think most of my footage came from my 3rd or 4th take because of all the city noise in the background and the bipolar lighting. It also took a little while before I could find the time to edit the video. I actually had it filmed and loaded onto my computer since the last week of October.

Anyway, there are quite a few Giorgio Armani beauty products on this past month's favorites because I've been testing a bunch of products from the brand over the last few months. I must say, I've been very impressed, and that's why they make an appearance in this video. I also have a few non-GA beauty favorites that I talk about in the latter half of the video.

Here are the products mentioned:

Giorgio Armani Maestro Foundation in 4.5
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara (regular original version)
Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Waterproof Eyeshadows in 27 and 28
Giorgio Armani Waterproof Silk Eye Pencils in 1 and 2
Chanel Notorious Sculpting Veil for Eyes and Cheeks
MAC blush in Fleet Fast
Revlon Colorburst lip glosses (Bellini shown in video)
MAC Select Moisture Concealer in NC20

I hope you all had a great month of October! Here's to a happy and healthy November!

Wow, so I haven't filmed a tutorial in a long time. Looking back at my old tutorial videos, I've improved a lot with my makeup application techniques. I think I've also found a style of editing that I really like now and a better spot to film. Lighting is really everything! This video is definitely more polished, and I hope you all like it. I also just want to say, thank goodness for voiceover or else tutorials would be completely impossible. I should have saved a blooper clip for the end. In the background you can hear my son shoving his toys around, babbling, and making all sorts of noises.

Anyway...

This tutorial will show you how to do an easy everyday smokey eye using the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette. If you want a night look, simply intensify the color to make it darker. This is one of my favorite looks using this palette, and YDK is one of my all time favorite eyeshadows.

Here are the products I used:

Urban Decay NAKED Skin Foundation in 4.0

Maybelline Dream Lumi Illuminating Concealer in Nude

MAKEUP FOREVER Full Cover Concealer in 7

Stila Brow Powder in Dark (discontinued)

Urban Decay NAKED 2 Palette - YDK, Busted, Bootycall

Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Bone

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero

Urban Decay Super Curling Mascara

I hope you enjoy the tutorial! Please leave any comments and/or suggestions in the comment box in the video.
Oh! I also want to give special thanks to my husband for the music in this video. He wrote it and played it on the spot. I know it's not the best of quality, but I think we will try to improve it because I like how it turned out, and it also makes the video more special.

Long time, no post, I know. Life got busy and left barely enough time to get through the usual daily stuff so my blog and YouTube channel took a backseat for a little while. I'm hoping to get back into things and get posting regularly.
To bring us back, I have Tom Ford's Smoke Red lipstick. This is the "old" formula housed in the white lacquer packaging before Mr.Ford launched his full makeup line. I also own Blush Nude and Pink Dusk from the original line.
The original line of lipsticks was originally limited edition. They became even more limited as they were phased out to be reformulated and repackaged into Tom Ford's current line of cosmetics. I found this beauty, and quite a few of the others, at my local Cosmetics Company Outlet (CCO).
Because this isn't widely available anymore, I just took a quick shot of the product and me wearing it. The original
lipstick formula is creamy, well-pigmented, fairly moisturizing, and lasts about 4 hours on me. It's a very comfortable lipstick to wear. I've been obsessed with reds and vampy lipsticks lately, and I have fallen in love with this color. It's a slightly blue-based red with the slightest bit of micro shimmer so that, on the lips, it looks mostly matte but has a slight bit of sheen and dimension to it.
The original retail price for Mr.Fords's lipstick was $45. The CCO's price for this was $33.75. If your local CCO carries these lipsticks, I recommend grabbing one. At $33.75, it's a much more reasonable and expectable price for a high-end lipstick and worth it for the formula.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02007638158544952862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4683002270683838597.post-48734851776467837812012-05-17T12:24:00.001-04:002012-05-17T12:48:32.521-04:00MAC Hey Sailor!
Over the last couple of months, I've been exploring the drug store for new makeup. I've been reading some good things about drug store products lately and wanted to check out a few products for myself. Generally I have very bad luck at the drug store, which is why I haven't purchased a lot of drug store makeup. I'd rather spend more on something that I know works and performs well than waste a few bucks on something I know I won't use and will end up in the trash. Besides, a lot of drug store beauty products are not very cheap anymore!

What's nice about drug stores is that if you check their weekly fliers, almost every week they have a sale on at least one or two brands of makeup. I ran into one of these sales at my local Rite Aid one day. The sale was for Rimmel, and I have never tried any Rimmel products before so I decided to pick up a couple of my favorite makeup items, lipstick and eyeshadow, by the brand.

The lipstick I chose was the lipstick #12 from the Kate Collection. The Kate Collection is a compilation of 7 lipsticks created by Kate Moss in Rimmel's Lasting Finish formula. The range of shades in the collection is great. You have three every day neutral colors, three brighter colors, and a very bold purple shade. I decided to go with #12, one of the brighter shades. #12 is a vibrant coral-red and fits very much into the bright lipstick trend. Though it is bright, I find it very wearable because it doesn't lean too orange and is not neon bright. The lipstick has a slightly satin, almost matte finish.

The formula is supposed to be long lasting, which I do find is true. I found that it lasted between 4-6 hours depending on how much eating, drinking, talking you're doing. The only thing I didn't like too much about the formula is that it can be slightly drying. And I really do mean slightly. It is definitely not moisturizing, but it is not uncomfortable to wear. This is probably one of the better long wear drugstore lipsticks I have tried, and it doesn't have a nasty taste or smell to it like most drug store lipsticks I have tried. I also am a fan of the packaging. It's a sleek matte black with Kate's signature on the cap. It's pretty sturdy and not at all flimsy.

Overall, I do recommend this lipstick and I would pick up a couple of the neutral shades to try. If you're looking for that bright, coral red lipstick to wear this season, this definitely fits the bill. You can find Rimmel at any of your local drugstores. It retails for $5.49 at Rite Aid, but the price may vary between drug stores. Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02007638158544952862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4683002270683838597.post-86870059443289162082012-03-29T01:35:00.001-04:002012-03-29T15:54:18.147-04:00Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE PUR COUTURE Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in 15 Rose Vinyl, 11 Rouge Gouache, and 20 Rouge Enamel

When I was in New York City for my birthday, I ran into a most amazing lip product while perusing the aisles of Sephora in Times Square. YSL has just released a revolutionary new lip product. The Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stains are liquid lip stains that go on like a liquid lipstick and leave a lovely glossy finish. They are truly two-in-one products. With one layer, they leave the stain. With a second layer, the color is intensified and a gorgeous glossy finish is added. These pack quite the punch, but not in a gaudy or unsophisticated way. Just don't expect a light stain or sheer color. The color is only sheerer when the gloss fades.
The applicator of this product is slightly unique. At first glance, it reminded me of the applicator for the Lancome Color Fever glosses with the tear drop shape. However, that is where the similarity ends. Though the Glossy Stains have a tear shaped sponge, the tip is much sharper meaning much more precise application. The sponge is rather flat and thin, allowing the perfect deposition of product onto your lips.
The texture of these Glossy Stains is just so lovely. When I first pulled the applicator out of the tube, I was expecting something thick and goopy. Was I so wrong. The product is very lightweight on the lips and just glides right on. As with the nature of lip stains, the product dries down rather quickly, so you will need to be a little quick with application. With one layer on the lips, you hardly notice anything on your lips at all. With a second layer, you feel a slight tackiness so you are aware the product is there, but the wear is still lightweight. Unlike many lip stains, the Glossy Stains are not drying at all. In fact, they are quite moisturizing.
Stain left behind after wiping product off with a tissue

The lasting power of the Glossy Stains is phenomenal because of the stain they leave behind. The darker colors will pull through meals. Although, keep a mirror handy for reapplication anyway because the product tends to fade unevenly. These are great for people like me who don't have time to reapply lip products throughout the day. I can trust that this looks good even if I'm unable to touch up during the day, especially if there is minimal eating and drinking. I also want to mention that the Glossy Stains have the usual YSL mango scent/flavor but it's not nearly as strong as it is in the lipsticks. You can smell it on the applicator, and it's there when you apply but fades rather quickly.

I highly, highly recommend the YSL Glossy Stains. The color range is pretty extensive, so you will probably be able to find a color that suits you. They are $32 and are available at Sephora stores, Sephora.com, and YSL counters everywhere. I recently spotted them at Nordstrom, where I actually picked up one more. I will feature that shade in a separate blog post.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02007638158544952862noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4683002270683838597.post-6764350156238824632012-02-22T22:44:00.001-05:002013-11-01T04:40:26.359-04:00Fresh Sugar Passion Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15

The Fresh tinted lip treatments are lip treatments that leave a beautiful tint of color in its wake. Or you have the choice of clear if you prefer your lip treatments to be colorless. There are currently four different tints in the line plus the clear treatment. I tried all of them at Sephora before settling on Passion. They all have the same lemony-citrus taste and glide on buttery smooth. The texture is so silky and light, you hardly feel like there is anything on your lips. The product is housed in metal packaging that screws open and closed, so there's no way this is busting open in your bag. Simply twist up and apply.

Passion may look like a scary bright crimson in the tube, but it actually goes on to give you a just bitten flush of red on the lips. It's tinted enough that you may not want to apply without a mirror. Passion brings a nice healthy bit of color to your face without being too obvious. I found this color to be the most flattering on me. The Rose treatment was pretty too, but was close to clear on my lips.

Are the Fresh lip treatments worth the $22.50 for just a balm? Many lip products claim to be moisturizing or nourishing on the lips, especially lately with the whole tinted lip balm trend. But in my experience, the Fresh lip treatments are the only true balm product that actually improves the condition of your lips while adding some color. The SPF is also a bonus. When my lips feel parched or abused by other less nourishing lip products, a day of wearing this products restores my lips to normal. I'm sure if I used the clear overnight my lips would be as soft and plushy as the pillow I rested my head on. So for me, I would absolutely purchase this again, and I would recommend this to anyone.
I hope everyone receives lots of love whether it's from family, friends, or a special somebody!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02007638158544952862noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4683002270683838597.post-66266153618370547282012-01-18T23:40:00.000-05:002012-01-18T23:40:12.461-05:00Chanel Spring 2012: Ombre D'eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow Source #40

A very unexpected purchase from the Chanel Spring 2012 collection for me was the Ombre D'eau in Source. I almost missed this piece completely if not for one last glance at the collection when I was at the counter. I had never tried Chanel's liquid eye shadow formula before, so I was intrigued. When you collect cosmetics, you get to the point where there are few things that are truly new and intriguing.

The Ombre D'eau comes in a pretty weighty frosted glass container, and the applicator is a doe's foot sponge. It can be worn alone or as a base for shadows. They are crease-free and long lasting (around 8 hours without creasing without a primer and close to 12 hours without creasing with a primer). However, because of the metallic, iridescent finish, my SA did not recommend this for folks with fine lines or wrinkles as the finish would emphasize these. Even though these are long lasting, they are NOT waterproof. In fact, they come off rather easily with just water.

You need to shake the bottle very well before application. My SA recommended placing the product on the back of the hand and using a synthetic brush to apply rather than applying the product directly to your eye from the applicator. This way, you have more control of the product and avoid over applying. I found using your fingers to apply and blend works out just fine as well. The formula dries down pretty quickly, so you have to work equally as quick to apply and blend out the edges.

The swatch above was with one swipe with the applicator. The formula is buildable so you can go as subtle or striking as you wish with the finish.

I wasn't expecting much because pinks on my eyes usually make me look tired or sick. Maybe it's because of the metallic/iridescent finish or perhaps the shade of pink is very pale, almost champagne-like, but it looked very pretty. The results actually had a brightening effect on my eyes that made me look more awake and fresh. I was instantly sold.

Since purchasing Source, I've been using it quite often. It's amazingly easy to use, quick and perfect for those mornings (which is almost every day now with the baby) where you don't have more than 5 minutes to make yourself look presentable and I love how long it lasts. At the end of the day, it still looks great. The delicate pink is perfect for spring, but I think it's wearable year round.

Chanel's Ombre D'eau is $32 and available at Chanel.com and Chanel counters.
Except for one. I know, what kind of beauty blogger am I. As I was editing these images, I realized I have one more lip butter. The one that is missing is Berry Smoothie. I'm not sure where I placed it, but I will edit this post with a swatch when I find it. It's one of my favorites, so I hope I didn't lose it. Click the image for full sized viewing.
I'm still figuring out how to capture lip swatches with my camera. Like I mentioned before, I don't have a fancy camera, so I need to play around with the settings. I think I got it though after playing around today. I will also try to update with lip swatches because with the lip butters, I really feel a lot of these look different and much better on the lips.

The Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters have taken the makeup blogging world by storm. It's difficult not to see why. They are affordable and quality alternatives to the higher end sheer moisturizing lip products such as the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine and YSL Volupte Sheer Candy. Honestly, I think I like these better than Chanel and YSL (gasp!). I have two swatches in this post. However, since photographing these, I have acquired 7 more for a total of 9 lip butters. I will update this post with swatches of the others when I get the chance.

When I think of lip butter, I picture a lip balm in a tub type thing, a product that's meant to heal dry lips, and if there is color you bet it's sheer. The Revlon lip butters are nothing like this. They go on the lips buttery smooth like a lip balm, but they are not short on pigmentation. These far exceeded my expectations on pigmentation. In fact, when I tried one on for the first time, I really pressed down and began to apply heavily with the preconceived notion that "lip butter" would mean something very sheer. Boy was I surprised. Like any pigmented lip product, they can be applied lighter or more heavily to control the amount of color you would like. Though these apply smoothly, feel extremely comfortable on the lips, and may seem like they are moisturizing, they don't add any moisture to your lips. I also want to mention they are smell-less and tasteless.

Unfortunately, like many "moisturizing" lip products, the Revlon lip butters don't last on the lips for very long. I find the need to reapply after 2 hours. Another thing I don't like about the product is with the packaging. The product is in your standard lipstick tube. However, the cap is extra long leaving a little less than a quarter of an inch at the bottom where you pull the lipstick tube from the cap. I often have some trouble pulling the lipstick out since there is so little to grip on the bottom. It's sorta minor I guess but annoying none the less.

The Revlon lip butters are permanent and are appearing at your local drugstores, Ulta, and Target. Depending on where you buy, they go between $5 - $7 and change. I definitely recommend checking these out. Especially in the colder weather, they are nice to wear when your lips need a break from dryer lipsticks.

Chanel Spring 2012 is a collection of refreshing hues inspired by spring skies. Shades of pink and coral typical of spring collections are found here with a splash of tangerine, this year's spring trend color. Though I found many of the products to be very pretty, they weren't tempting enough for me to start burning plastic. Coral doesn't really work for me, and I already own a lot of pink. Most of the collection will be added to the permanent collection, so there is some time to pick up a few more things later on if I feel like it. What I did pick up immediately was the star of the collection, the limited edition Blush Horizon de Chanel.

The blush is arranged in stripes of pink, coral, and white highlight with the pink on the top half of the blush and the coral at the bottom. I like this because it's like having two blushes in one. The pink gradient and coral gradient are large enough so that you may use one or the other. The highlight is too small to swipe alone. Or you can mix them together as you like. Mixed, the overall color leans more pink than coral.

Though the colors of the blush are not unique, it imparts a beautiful, healthy glow on the cheeks. A light hand is all you need to add a nice flush of color to your complexion. The blush is easily buildable for more color. The blush is not completely matte, yet not overly shimmery. It really is just a glow on your face.

Here is a shot of the blush on me in sunlight.

The blush also comes with an angled brush with its own separate velvet pouch. This brush is larger than the useless brushes that come with Chanel's joue contraste blushes and is much softer. I actually found this brush to be rather functional. It swipes across the blush perfectly and applies it nicely. I actually used it to apply the blush in the photo above.
Overall, I am very pleased with this blush. I normally don't splurge on blushes, but I am glad I got this one. I definitely see myself reaching for this all season and beyond.
Dior's Celebration Collection holiday eye palette features lovely neutrals housed in an adorable tweed and leather mirrored compact. This palette is the best of many worlds: beautiful packaging, practical colors, buttery shadows (except for one which I will go more into detail later), and stay put liner. The shades in the palette are perfect for every-day wear as well as for night. I love how the liner in this palette is an actual gel liner and not just a darker shadow. It's great for traveling because of it's size and practicality.
I was really surprised by the packaging. I fell in love with the bow and charm detailing, but the quality of the leather and tweed is so much lovelier and nicer than I expected. It's such a pretty piece to have on your vanity.

The only thing that I'm not a fan of is the brush. The brush is a mini dual-ended sponge tip and stubby liner type brush. The sponge is your typical sponge applicator, which you may or may not find useful depending on whether or not you actually use sponge tips. I personally don't use them. The liner end is completely useless because it practically gouges your lids out. It is so scratchy and stiff, I wish I hadn't tried the thing. Had the bristles been softer, the size and shape of the brush are great. If you purchase this product, don't bother with the brush at all.

The base shade is a golden khaki. The color shade is a dark brown/bronze. The shine shade is white/ivory. The liner is dark chocolate brown. All the shades except for the white/ivory shade have a shimmery iridescence much like the shadows in Dior's 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow quints. The white/ivory shade is a more powdery than the other shades and has bits of fine glitter. This shadow doesn't apply as nicely as the other two in the palette, but it works just fine for an inner corner highlight. I think it's much too sparkly to use as a brow bone highlight. Dabbed lightly on the center of the lids, this shade adds some overall sparkle to your look.
